Emily windsnap series in order5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() “I’d left a job and was working toward a novel-writing master’s degree. “It started off as a poem,” she recalled. ![]() It was in the late 1990s that Kessler saw the early glint of what would become Emily’s story, while looking out at the water she so loves. McDonald5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() I never saw a copy on bookstore shelves in 1981, and I assume that’s due to poor distribution. But even if I had, I doubt I would have bought it. I was 17 years old in 1981, already spending a good chunk of my disposable income every week on science fiction paperbacks. I’m sure there’s plenty of reasons for the failure of the The Janus Syndrome, but chiefly I blame science fiction fans - myself included. There were no more novels featuring “the outrageous hero” Kevven Tomari from Bantam Books, or anyone else. The Janus Syndrome did not usher in a new era of color diversity on SF paperbacks, and that’s a pity. ![]() It’s the first time I remember seeing a black hero so prominently on a cover, anyway. ![]() Busby published Zelde M’Tana, featuring a black heroine on the cover, in 1980, and John Brunner wrote the first of his Max Curfew spy novels, A Plague on Both Your Causes, way back in 1969, but they weren’t science fiction.) As far as I know The Janus Syndrome broke the color barrier, at least among mainstream paperback SF publishers. Sadly Martin Luther King Jr’s life ended shortly in 1968 as he was assassinated and killed with a gunshot wound. But in the end he managed to prove his point and bring better civil rights for the blacks through a lot of peaceful and nonviolent protests. But being black he faced a lot of resistance from the whites as well as threats and protests against the civil rights movement. Together with other social activists around america Martin Luther king Jr worked on establishing better rights and better rules for the blacks so they would also get the same rights as the whites during the 1950’s. At the same time this march on washington took place it was also where he delivered and performed his most famous speech “I have a dream”. It’s like a major disconnect. ![]() For some reason, when the brilliant story that’s in my head comes out on paper, it’s like FIZZLE! SPUTTER! SPLAT! It is NOT AT ALL what I meant to write. As for my writing process, I need to admit something-my least favorite part of writing is spilling out that very first story draft. I spend my time walking, biking, playing golf, lazing on the beach, and playing with my wild and crazy dog, Pedro (He’s an Australian Shepherdand a comedianand even though. Be kind.), and lived all of my life in Arkansas until we recently moved to Florida. With nonfiction, I could learn and write about whatever interested me! Cool.įrom magazines, I transitioned mainly to book writing, both picture books and nonfiction books for older readers. The Basics: I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in (I’ll let you guess the year. I wrote about sugar gliders, jellyfish, an albino gorilla, the history of the golf ball, and many other topics. I wrote fiction, too, but the love of weirdness led me down the nonfiction path. As a kid, I loved reading quirky stories that included little known facts. Bree5/11/2023 ![]() If I end up falling in love enough or get turned off enough with this series, you’ll hear from me again. In an audio book situation, it would make the story so much hotter and more enticing. Regarding the narration, I would love for more writers of reverse harem to start writing chapters to include the male POV (narrated by a male) or at least allow for a male narrator to narrate the speaking parts for the heroes. Secondly, while I love people that don’t necessarily know just how beautiful they are, this heroine is killing me with her density. Sometimes far-fetched bothers me more or less. First of all, this series is just so far out of the realm of possibility, that it’s more than a tad frustrating. The cliffhanger definitely pulls you in! But I do have some issues to discuss. And I plan to purchase the next installment. Ok, I’ve obviously liked this series enough to continue to book two. ![]() ![]() Really Good So Far with Some Minor Drawbacks ![]() Ravenmaster by Christopher Skaife5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Over the years in which he has cared for the physical and mental well-being of these remarkable birds, Christopher Skaife has come to know them like no one else.
